Awesome! This shows how stupid the current speed laws are.

Awesome! This shows how stupid and impatient the drivers on our roads are.

I’m honestly surprised no one pulled a gun. Drive first and ask questions later.

  • jonvankirk

thats why there needs to be a range of speed instead of just 55… there should be a speed sign that says “35 to 95″ :)

  • Parscheese

I’m not sure about the USA but here in Australia we have a rule that applies in this situation.

“Keep left unless overtaking”. Equivelent to keep right in the USA I guess.

You can be fined for not obeying this rule.

  • illegal

It’s called blockading and it’s illegal. Some truckers did that a long time ago.

  • DD

This goes to show how stupid the general driving public is, not speed laws. The speed laws are there for a reason. All those people were dangerous impatient idiots that cause a majority of car accidents.

  • may be illegal but…

they were following the speed limit which aint illegal. If everyone is going 20 mph over the speed limit thats worse.

  • wow great job

i might be wrong but out of all those suffering from these retards expedition.

some people might be in a hurry or even an emergency.

im sorry but have they no better things to do with their day?

    obviously not

Try doing that in CA, you’d have bumper to bumper traffic behind you… They didn’t even block that many cars.

ah, but its not illegal (cept for the left lane = passing only, which is state variant) since in order for any car to pass them they would be violating the law. (speeding)

  • California

In the US it is illegal in some states. Oregon, for example only allows the left lane for passing. California has too much traffic on their roads to designate the left lanes for this.

Parscheese, only in some states in the US we have laws like, like in Colorado. You must stay in the right lane unless passing, and it works great. I think road rage is a huge problem in America. Modern society is “instant” this and instant that, and no one has patience anymore.

We deal with that crap here all the time! It’s the fat women in minivans. AKA “fat woman minivan trap” It’s really dangerous because everybody tailgates each other which IS illigal. And it SHOULD be illegal to stay in someones blind spot! So crouded road block formation is dangerous. What if somone had to rush to the hospital? What if they have to swirve? I understand the point, but still this was an endangering stunt. Whoever dwelling was in the “passing lane” (lt lane) would have legally gotten a ticket if they were caught, so a law actually was broken. Look it up if you don’t believe me. If it were me stuck behind these assholes, I’d take pictures (plates and all) and show to the authorities.

Well, this is how we manage things in Germany. We have usually three lanes, every lane left to another lane, can be used to overtake, then you change back onto the rightmost, if there is no other car that you want to overtake too. We got speedlimits on the Highway (We call it Autobahn) too, but only on places were it is necessary(i.e.: at driveways, construction sites). Otherwise we have no rule, but some kind of common agreement about the speed. 130 km/h (averagely 80 mph). When you have to overtake, you go faster.

i mean… 55 mph??? only Trucks have to obey that speed here for security reasons. I would die if i would have to creep that slow, but on the other hand, that could be because i am german, and we drive like crazy…

well… what else to say? Banzai,Banzai The Autobahn… ere we go…

@ Andy — Many states do not have a passing lane anymore. You are able to pass (or not pass) on either side. Depending on the laws in the state they were in, what they were doing was not illegal.

I love how everyone speaks of how terrible they were to do this, and are running off a list of laws that they were breaking, when they were in fact driving the limit. Had they not done what they did the other drivers would have been the ones to break the law, but no one points out that fact. They were trying to make a point that the limit is ridiculous. You guys saying that they should have moved over allowing folks to drive faster just reinforces their stand.

And in the case of an emergency blinking lights and sirens would have been seen and heard, and I’m sure they would have moved out of the way.

If you’re in a hurry to get to the hospital, then you should be in the back of an ambulance, not driving like a maniac in a dangerous situation that you’re not trained to handle as a driver, whereas EMS people are.

I wholeheartedly agree that this video is a statement that highlights the impatience of a lot of drivers. Rules are rules, laws are laws. You don’t have to like them, but you DO have to follow them. That’s why it’s called “the law.” These drivers weren’t creating a dangerous situation because of what they were doing, the only danger was being presented by what other acts of stupidity that other drivers on the road were prepared to commit. Plain and simple.

I’ll not that I am certainly not always a model driver myself, I usually drive approximately 10kph above the speed limit on major roads (while obeying the speed limits and even driving under them on residential roads), that however is about 20kph less than what the average driver will drive around here.

I live in Georgia where this happened and there is no passing law in Georgia so what they did was in fact perfectly legal. I actually asked several police about it and most of them even say the inner city interstate limits should be 65 at minimum. Police don’t make the laws but they are supposed to enforce them. Then again how do you enforce a law that 400,000 people break each and every day. The problem is that in Georgia there used to be a statewide interstate speed limit of 75 then when accident rates went up they dropped it statewide to 55 and over time metro areas have moved up to 65 and rural areas to 70. It’s getting better buyt we can’t expect it to be fixed overnight.

  • frigginmrnz

Seriously, speed limitation signs were initially there to warn people when they approached a turn/bump/climb whatever, so that they would keep their speed low enough (under the speed limit) not to crash like complete morons into these bends/bumps/climbs…

The dumb thing now is that these limitations are like everywhere and seem to have lost their initial purpose…

Another problem is that people dont drive as fast as they can WHEN they can, but they rather gather up on the road all together driving at ultra low speeds= Traffic jam. If the roads were used to their full potential , traffic jams would severely decrease…

I remember when the 55 speed limit first was instigated in the 70s. The Maryland State Police did the same thing only a three car rolling block was used. The same thing happened. Nobody passed them on the berm. If I remember correctly the traffic was backed-up better than 10 miles. For this video, did they see how far it was backed up?

And to Andy….stick it, I hope you get a ticket and a flat tire every week for a year. I’m getting my voodoo tire out.
